Controversies Surrounding Kim
Before she debuted in May 2022 several bullying allegations resurfaced regarding Garam in early April 2022 but HYBE denied the accusations in response at that time. Fans started to target her and #Garam_Out started trending in South Korea and worldwide. Three weeks after her debut it was announced that Garam will take a break as she was suffering from psychological; issues due to the ongoing scandal.
On May 16, 2022 a document showing Garam as guilty in a school violence committee was also released along with some other evidence. Many people shared their bullying experiences through a legal representative on May 19, 2022. The victim claimed that she has transferred schools due to anxiety and suicidal thoughts. HYBE released a statement denying the allegations and maintaining the position. Eventually in July 2022 both HYBE and Source Music terminated their contracts with Garam.

Twenty days after her departure from LE SSERAFIM on August 10, 2022 she released a post denying all the accusations through her friend’s instagram account. She said she was scared of all the allegations against her and claimed she did not bully anyone, hit or assault anyone, smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol or was forced to transfer schools.
She admitted that her actions were immature and incorrect and explained the disciplinary action she faced from the school violence committee. Garam shared that when she was in her first year of middle school, a classmate named Yoo spread gossip and posted photos of other students in their underwear. In an attempt to help the victim, Garam confronted Yoo and used inappropriate language.
She admitted that she was unaware of the difference between minority and majority at the time, so the school violence committee disciplined her. HYBE released a statement on August 11, 2022, that any further comments are inappropriate due to the termination of Garam’s contract.
